The Story: A masterpiece of a musical, 1776 is a rousing re-creation of the momentous days from May to July in Philadelphia during which the Second Continental Congress argued about and voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. It is a story filled with mounting tension and triumph, from John Adam’s opening diatribe to the stunning finale, when the delegates sign the document and the Liberty Bell rings.

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Musical, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, and with a movie and a Broadway revival to its credit, 1776 is heralded as one of the great musicals of our time.
