Funny Girl is the bittersweet, classic musical drama about Vaudeville’s sweetheart, Fanny Brice. The musical tells the story of the comedienne who started out as a bit player on the Vaudeville stage, but worked her way up to stardom as one of the most acclaimed members of the Ziegfeld Follies. Funny Girl follows Fanny’s rise to fame and highlights her comedic and musical prowess. It also explores her amazing, yet strained relationship with her husband, Nick Arnstein, a professional gambler. Funny Girl is witty, glamorous, and a general spectacle that portrays some of the most vibrant characters in Broadway history and their strong, but strained relationships. It features some of Broadway’s most treasured music, such as People and Don’t Rain on My Parade.
The Concord Players are looking for a few men to join the cast of Funny Girl.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Nick Arnstein (Lead): Male, 30-40
Nick is the romantic male lead. He is a gambler and the love of Fanny’s life, suave, sophisticated, and charming; must have a strong middle range voice, baritone.
Ensemble Men: A few men of all ages
Ensemble men will be in the Follies casts as dancers and singers as well as the general ensemble. There are several stand out roles for men throughout the show.(To see the roles already cast, click here).
Auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 31 at 7pm, at 51 Walden St., Concord, MA. Actors should prepare a song from musical theater in the style of the show, but NOT FROM Funny Girl. Those who wish to be considered for the dance ensemble should be prepared for a short dance audition (bring taps if you own them). Those interested in the role of Nick Arnstein, should be prepared to learn music from the show on the night of the auditions.
Rehearsals will begin in early September 2019 and be Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, with some Fridays.
Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm: November 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 2019; with two Sunday matinees at 2pm: November 10 & 17, 2019.
